Julian Goldberger studied acting and directing at Florida State

University's School of Theatre and at the Lee Strasberg Theatre

Institute, afterwards completing New York University's Intensive Film
Program and The American Film Institute's Directing Program.

Goldberger’s first feature length screenplay, "In the Wake", won FIRST
PRIZE in the Dramatic Screenplay Competition at the 1998 Breckenridge
Festival of Film.

Goldberger’s feature film directing debut, Trans, listed in the BEST
OF 1999 and 2000 by film critics, has screened at the 1998 Toronto
International Film Festival, 1999 Sundance Film Festival, 1999 Berlin
International Film Festival (READERS’ JURY PRIZE for BEST FILM), 1999
New Directors/New Films series at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art,
as well as various other international festivals. “Trans” premiered
theatrically January 2000 in New York City and opened in several cities
throughout North America and Europe. The “Trans” television premiere
ran nationwide on the Sundance Channel, and in England on Channel Four
Television. “Trans” is now also available on video/dvd through
Blockbuster Entertainment and Winstar Home Video.

In addition, Goldberger was honored as an INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARD
nominee for the MOVADO “SOMEONE TO WATCH AWARD”, recognizing
talented up-and-coming directors with a singular vision.

In 2000, Goldberger served as Filmmaker-in-Residence at Singapore’s
Centre for Film and Media Studies.

In 2001, Goldberger assisted actor/writer/director Matt Dillon on
Dillon’s screenplay, “City of Ghosts”. The film was released by United
Artists.

In 2002, Goldberger was awarded a grant from the CHICAGO UNDERGROUND
FILM FUND to facilitate the completion of his multi-part ethnology
film, “The Eulipion Chronicles”. It premiered at The 2003 Chicago
Underground Film Festival.

Goldberger is currently preparing for production on his second feature,
an adaptation of the Harry Crews novel, The Hawk is Dying. Jeff
Levy-Hinte and Mary Jane Skalski are producing the project, with Ted
Hope as Executive Producer.
 
Goldberger is also set to direct Russell Friedenberg’s screenplay, “A
Thousand Guns”, to be produced by Harvey Keitel and Michael Robinson.
 
Completing his slate is Goldberger’s original screenplay,Little America,
which is now in development at Antidote Films.
